EARLINGTON, VA. - The Joint Program Office of the military's F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter is testing the final payload bays to better understand how the fifth-generation aircraft performed at sea during its first deployment.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Eric Feek, executive officer of the F-35 JPO program, said his office is studying the recent delivery of the US Navy's F-35C to the USS.

“We looked at those [Floating Spare Packs] and [Fixed Fixed Packs] in terms of range and depth, did we get it right? Did we think we got it right compared to the types of organs that might fail? And when it comes to the number of those parts, or how often those parts fail, have we got it right? Because DSPs and ASPs are a big set of boxes, tools and spare parts, and we want to make sure that we minimize that as we move forward in warfighting success," Fick told reporters Tuesday at a roundtable at the JPO office in Arlington. ,Va .
Fick said the F-35Cs have made good progress in the global supply chain, and his team is now evaluating whether the squadron has the right mix of components for delivery.
"I make sure we learn from this deployment so that next time we take the kit but maybe it works well for us," Feek said.

Noting the limited space on the plane, Fick said the JPO wanted to make sure its ASP was accurate.
"From an ASP perspective, it's about making sure we have the right members, nothing more, nothing less - because when you're at sea, you're an island to yourself," he said. "Making sure we have that right, I think, will make a difference to the Navy, to service providers, and to their ability to produce air power."
